Dragonfly Ripple, Episode 9: Star Wars The Force Awakens
Just as we prep the next generation of nerd, Star Wars has kicked off the introduction of their next generation with the new movie, Star Wars, Episode VII: The Force Awakens. Carlin and Michael hold back on their thoughts and get reaction from the kids about their take on the new film's characters, plots, and settings. Plus, a new Jetpack Tiger dives into the new Star Wars film, too. WARNING: Do not listen if you haven't seen the movie yet and want to remain spoiler-free.

I'm not convinced that Han is dead. I subscribe to the "where is the body" school of interpretation: if I don't actually see the corpse, I'm not certain that the character is really dead. I think he is badly wounded, but I'm not positive that he has really died. I also don't think the first lightsaber attack is intentional. However, once it has fired, Kylo feels obligated to keep going with the Dark side.
ReplyDeleteWhy does Ren keep clutching his chest? Is he wounded from Chewie shooting at him? Or does he also have some other kind of injury--like the Fisher King myth--that needs a kind of Grail?
Whose daughter is Rey? She looks a lot like both Ren and Leia, and she's a great pilot, but Luke's lightsaber responds to her with memories of her own life and Luke's. So is Luke her father?
Does Finn tie into any old main characters? Maybe Lando?
I agree with the kids that the resemblances to the first film are ok and not overdone. Enjoyed the film a lot.
